Abu Dhabi, September 9, 2018: His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces received His Excellency General Raheel Sharif, Military Commander of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC), at Al-Shati Palace. This official visit is part of the Engagement Program developed to engage with Ministers of Defense of IMCTC Member Countries through the Secretariat-General and Military Command.

The United Arab Emirates has a unique expertise and programs in the field of counter-terrorism and is one of the founding countries of the IMCTC. Being the largest Islamic coalition, IMCTC unites efforts institutionally and adopts the governance needed to organize its operations, activities, and future initiatives, focusing on four domains that are Ideology, Communication, Counter-Terrorism Financing, and Military.

General Raheel Sharif was assigned the role of Military Commander in 2017 during the IMCTC’s Inaugural Meeting of the Ministers of Defense Council. The meeting was chaired by His Royal Highness Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defense, whom announced the inauguration of the Coalition, as a contribution of the Islamic nations on playing a leading role in the war against terrorism, uniting the collective efforts to achieve security and stability.

Military Command, General Secretariat, and CTC, operate under the leadership of IMCTC’s Ministers of Defense Council, serving as the executive arm of the IMCTC which assists integrally with international efforts to coordinate resourcing within the framework of its initiatives across its four domains, facilitate secure knowledge sharing and help Member Countries in building their institutional counter-terrorism capabilities to confront terrorist attacks and extremism.
