ISLAMIC MILITARY COUNTER TERRORISM COALITION (IMCTC) HOLDS A SYMPOSIUM ENTITLED “APPROACHES FOR SHAPING COUNTER VIOLENT DISCOURSE”
1/17/2021

As part of the series of programs and symposia organized by the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) for 2021, IMCTC held a symposium entitled “Approaches for Shaping Counter Violent Discourse”, on Sunday, 17 January, 2021, at its headquarters in Riyadh. The symposium was presented by Dr. Muhammad bin Suleiman Al-Subaihi, Delegate of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to IMCTC in the Communications Domain, under the patronage of IMCTC Secretary-General Maj. Gen. Mohammed Bin Saeed Al-Moghedi and the presence of member countries’ delegates and IMCTC personnel.

Dr. Al-Subaihi highlighted features and components of violent discourse in the digital environment and the tools through which a counter discourse can be constructed and shaped to deter radical ideology trends that have an informational and ideological impact on youth. He also discussed the professional communicational practices needed to confront violent discourse and its most important forms through alternative and counter discourse.

At the conclusion of the symposium, Maj. Gen. Al-Moghedi confirmed that this symposium comes as part of countering terrorism in the communications domain through exposing the means, tools and mechanisms which violent extremist groups use to exploit media discourse in all its forms to broadcast their violent and criminal extremist messages.

The domain of communications is the second domain of IMCTC four domains of action (ideology, communications, counter terrorist financing, military).

It is worth noting that IMCTC comprises forty-one member countries working together to coordinate and multiply their efforts in the global fight against terrorism and violent extremism and to join other international security and peacekeeping efforts.
