IMCTC Organizes Its Second Forum on Building Ideological and Research Capabilities to Counter Violent Extremism

With the Participation of Experts from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan

The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) will organize its second monthly forum entitled "Building Ideological and Research Capabilities to Counter Violent Extremism". The forum will take place at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Coalition in Riyadh on Monday, July 22nd 2019. 

The forum will host a number of experts, researchers and specialists in monitoring and analyzing violent extremism and the ideological methods to address this phenomenon. The main objective of this forum is to review the experiences of specialized research centers in countering violent extremism by presenting the experiences of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and United Arab Emirates in this regard.

Maj. Gen. Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Mughedi, IMCTC Secretary-General, pointed that organizing this forum is a part of a series of monthly seminars organized by IMCTC to find out the experiences and expertise of Member Countries within the IMCTC domains of action, especially in countering terrorist ideology and its theories, theses and concepts, thus contributing to foil plans of the leaders of this ideology and its followers.

Col. Hasan Al-Amari, Director of Planning and Coordination at the IMCTC Center added that the forum will discuss three working papers. The first research paper will be presented by the Ambassador Khan Hashim Bin Siddiq, President of Islamabad Policy Research Institute, former Pakistan Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and Permanent Representative to the OIC. The paper is entitled: "Pakistan's Vision in Combatting Violent Extremism by Developing an Ideological and Societal Approach". The Second paper will be presented by Professor Maqsoud Kruse, Executive Director of the International Center of Excellence in Countering Violent Extremism (Hedayah) in the United Arab Emirates. The title of the paper is: “Experience of Research Centers in Combatting Violent Extremism”. Finally, Brigadier General Dr. Khaled Al-Brithen from the Center for Ideological Warfare which is affiliated with the Saudi Ministry of Defense, will present a paper entitled "Countering the Phenomenon of Violent Extremism from an Ideological Perspective"
