The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) held a symposium entitled “Guerrilla Warfare and its Relationship to Terrorism”, on Thursday, 11 March 2021, at its headquarters in Riyadh. The symposium was presented by Brigadier General Yahya Mohammed Asiri, Delegate of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to IMCTC, and Lieutenant Colonel Zaki Yahya Al-Rawahi, Delegate of the Sultanate of Oman to IMCTC, under the patronage of IMCTC Acting Secretary-General Maj. Gen. Mohammed Bin Saeed Al-Moghedi and in the presence of IMCTC member countries’ delegates and IMCTC personnel.

During the symposium, Brig. Gen. Asiri defined and discussed guerrilla warfare, its relationship with terrorism and its link to the four counterterrorism domains (ideology, communications, counter-terrorist financing and military). He also emphasized that it is one form of irregular wars which has become a global phenomenon along with its dimensions and manifestations. In turn, Lt. Col. Al-Rawahi indicated that these groups are dangerous as they threaten security, stability and peace at local, regional and international levels.

It is worth noting that IMCTC comprises forty-one member countries working together to coordinate and multiply their efforts in the global fight against violent extremism and terrorism and to join other international security and peacekeeping efforts.
