The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) held a roundtable discussion entitled “ISIS and its Media Means for Disseminating Terrorist Messages”, on Wednesday, 17 March 2021, at its headquarters in Riyadh. The roundtable discussion was delivered by Col. Ali Mohammad Mahmoud, Delegate of the Kingdom of Bahrain to IMCTC, under the patronage of IMCTC Acting Secretary-General Maj. Gen. Mohammed Bin Saeed Al-Moghedi and in the presence of IMCTC member countries’ delegates in the communications domain.

Media work in extremist groups, particularly ISIS, was addressed during the roundtable discussion along with the tools used to influence target groups for the purpose of recruitment and joining these extremist groups. Col. Ali Mahmoud noted that media work in extremist groups is linked to other areas of terrorism (ideology, counter-terrorist financing, military) as they support each other. He also stressed that media work in extremist groups is one form of soft power which is used to threaten security, stability and peace at the local, regional and international levels.

It is worth noting that IMCTC comprises forty-one member countries working together to coordinate and multiply their efforts in the global fight against violent extremism and terrorism and to join other international security and peacekeeping efforts.
