IMCTC concluded its 12th and last monthly symposium for 2020, on Monday, 28 December, 2020, at its headquarters in Riyadh. The symposium was entitled “Understanding the forms and methods of extremism as a prelude to addressing it by Media,” presented by Dr. Fahd bin Abdulaziz Alghofaili under the patronage of IMCTC Secretary-General\Acting, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Bin Saeed Al-Moghedi, and the presence of the Military commander of IMCTC H. E. General Raheel Sharif (retd), member countries’ delegates, and IMCTC personnel.

Dr. Fahd discussed extremism forms and methods, violent extremism indicators, and modern recruitment methods by exploiting social media and digital platforms. In addition to the impact mechanism adopted by the extreme terrorist groups and types of cyber armies on the Internet.

In this regard, Maj. Gen. Al-Moghedi confirmed that this symposium comes as part of countering terrorism in the communications domain. It is through combating terrorism in this domain that the means and tools of extremist groups and their mechanisms of exploiting digital and media platforms in recruitment mechanisms are revealed, as the domain of communications is the second domain of IMCTC four domains of action (Ideology, communications, counter terrorist financing, military).

It is noteworthy that the symposium came as part of the activities and events held by the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) for member countries’ delegates and IMCTC Center’s personnel, which aim at coordinating efforts to curb extremist and violent ideologies.
