The director of the United Nations Counterterrorism Center visits the Islamic Military Counterterrorism Coalition

​​The Secretary General of the Islamic Military Counterterrorism Coalition (IMCTC) Maj. Gen. Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi, received today, Tuesdday, Aug.3, 2021, at IMCTC’s headquarters in Riyadh, the director of the United Nations Counterterrorism Center (UNCCT) Dr. Jahangir Khan and his accompanying delegation.

Dr. Khan received a detailed briefing on IMCTC’s counterterrorism efforts across the four domain (ideology, communications, CTF and military) as well as its role in coordinating member countries’ efforts in this regard.

Maj. Gen. Al-Moghedi pointed out that IMCTC offers a fully integrated platform that seeks to strengthen cooperation between member countries based on the values of legitimacy, independence, participation and seeks to ensure that all of its member countries’ efforts are in line with international rules, norms and laws. 

For his part, the director of the UN Counterterrorism Center (UNCCT) commended the great role played by IMCTC across counterterrorism domains and that IMCTC efforts are consistent with principles of the United Nations Counterterrorism Center to deter the scourge of terrorism and violent extremism. He further added that the UNCCT conducts a lot of work with partners in the Middle East and North Africa, contributes in developing a set of strategies relevant to the region, as well as supporting countries suffering from terrorism. He concluded his remarks by saying that he looks forward to cooperating with IMCTC in counterterrorism domains. 

Dr. Khan commended Saudi Arabia, the founder of IMCTC, for its role in providing all the resources needed for establishing this Coalition, in addition to its financial and moral support for the United Nations Office of Counterterrorism for coordination and support and in assisting countries affected by terrorism. 

Maj. Gen. Al-Moghedi concluded the meeting by welcoming the cooperation with the UN and its various counterterrorism agencies and that he looks forwards to working on future joint initiatives and programs with the UN Counterterrorism Center.
