The Islamic Military Counter-Terrorism Coalition's Secretary-General, Maj. Gen. Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi, received the Chief of Staff of the Republic of Sudan, Lieutenant General Mohammed Othman Al-Hussein Al-Hassan and the accompanying delegation at IMCTC's headquarters in Riyadh, on Monday December 19, 2022.

During the visit, Lt. Gen. Al-Hassan received a thorough briefing on the IMCTC’s efforts across counterterrorism domains: ideology, communications, counter-terrorist financing, and military, as well as its role in coordinating and stepping up member countries’ counter-terrorism efforts. Both sides also discussed issues of common interest during the meeting.

Later, the visiting delegation toured IMCTC headquarters facilities, met with several member countries’ delegates from various nations in the Muslim world, and learned about the most recent developments on terrorist groups and incidents around the world, as well as IMCTC's monitoring and tracking mechanisms in this regard.

Lt. Gen. Al-Hassan commended IMCTC efforts in countering terrorism across the various domains as well as its strategic approach in dealing with extremist groups.

For his part, Maj. Gen. Al-Moghedi pointed out that IMCTC is an important organization that strives to strengthen cooperation among its member countries, and is based on the values of legitimacy, independence, coordination, complementarity and makes sure that all counterterrorism work and efforts are in line with international regulations, norms and laws. He further added that "terrorism is a scourge that requires concerted efforts of all countries and organizations to eliminate it by all means and methods."

"As modern technology advances, the means of dealing with terrorist groups evolve as well; as a result, we work on countering terrorists' ideology as an important element, then tackle their communication tools and pernicious messages, and finally cut off their funding sources to stop them from committing crimes and ultimately defeating them militarily," he continued.

Maj. Gen. Al-Moghedi reaffirmed that the Republic of Sudan has been a member of the IMCTC since its inception because it believes that it is essential to prevent any actions that can encourage or incite violent extremism. He further added that the Republic of Sudan plays a pivotal role in countering terrorism and violent extremism in the North African region. In his last remarks, He applauded Sudan's high principle of opposing violence and extremism, as well as its membership in several counter-terrorism and extremism organizations and centers.
